Have you got a case of the Mondays? What does that even mean? Whoever made up that phrase must not have known about “MOVIE NEWS MONDAY!!” allow me to welcome you to this week’s edition of “MNM!” What is “Movie News Monday!!” all about? “MNM!” is the place to visit every Monday for a quick recap of trending entertainment news! Keeping you updated on movies being released, actors/actresses in roles, dvd releases to keep a lookout for, which movie won in the box office over the weekend, etc! Hope you enjoy! Lots of stuff for you today, links to click, vids to watch, questions to answer…pay close attention! Here we go! :)

This Just In!!…

#1- “Weekend Box Office Winner.” This weekend proved to be quite “mega” as Megamind (review soon to come) destroyed its theatrical competition! Not too surprising, but I wonder what the dollar amounts would have been if Megamind did not have the 3D surcharge added to each ticket! hmm? Would Due Date have won? What’s your opinion? I tell you what, I personally cannot wait for Morning Glory, Unstoppable, and Skyline to release this weekend! And perhaps 127 Hours will release in my area as it had a limited release this past weekend, I know that some of you are interested in seeing it. Don’t think that Megamind and Due Date will stand a chance against those three or four….just throwing that out there! :)

Here’s the numbers! Which one did you see?

  1. Megamind ~$47.6 million
  2. Due Date ~$33.5 million
  3. For Colored Girls ~$20.1 million
  4. RED ~$8.8 million ($71.8 million after 4 weeks!)
  5. Saw 3D ~$8.2 million
  6. Paranormal Activity2 ~$7.3 million
  7. Jackass 3D ~$5.1 million ($110 million after 4 weeks!)
  8. Hereafter ~$4.02 million
  9. Secretariat ~$4 million
  10. Social Network ~$3.6 million ($85 million after 6 weeks!)

My predictions for next weekend’s top 8: Unstoppable, Skyline, Megamind, Morning Glory, Due Date, 127 Hours (if not limited), For Colored Girls, and RED. Do you dare to post your predictions??

#2-The Daily Bugle Reports.” (For those that don’t know, The Daily Bugle is the newspaper that Peter Parker takes pictures for.) That’s right! Reportedly, there are a few surprising bits of news surrounding the new Spiderman-reboot movie that will be shot in 3D. Here are the bullet points.

  1. Martin Sheen has reportedly joined the cast as Peter Parker’s Uncle Ben. I loved Cliff Robertson as Uncle Ben in the last Spiderman films, but Martin Sheen will fill the role this time around. If we don’t like him in the role, at least we know it will be short-lived! (too harsh?? heehee)
  2. No MJ. That’s right, there will be no MaryJane Watson in this film. One of the things that Spiderman3 did wrong (one of the MANY things) was adding Gwen Stacy in way too late. Gwen Stacy was Peter Parker’s first love interest, not MJ, and it appears that this reboot is looking to set the record straight. Emma Stone (a natural blond) will be playing as Gwen Stacy without a MJ to compete against.
  3. Rhys Ifans is still rumored to be Dr. Curt Conners/The Lizard in this upcoming film, but it is listed as a “fact” on imdb.
  4. Sally Field is in negotiations to play the part of Aunt May. I, again, loved Rosemary Harris in the role from the previous films. If Field takes the spot, she has big shoes to fill.
  5. As much as director Marc Webb is trying to distance his film from the Sam Raimi ones the Spiderman-reboot film will inevitably face the “comparison curse” from comic and movie fans worldwide! I wish Webb and cast the best! (It goes without saying, that I have a special vested interest in this one!)

#3- “The Lion roars about Bond!” In case you didn’t catch the news, MGM did indeed file chapter 11 bankruptcy last week (even after offers from Lionsgate Studios to purchase/merge). The movie studio giant fell, and with it so did any hopes of The Hobbit continuing and Bond EVER returning. But WAIT!!…..The Hobbit will not be slowed by this recent hiccup, rest assured. And, the people behind the proposed reorganization of MGM are shooting for a November 2012 release of Bond 23 along with a plan to release a Bond movie once every two years!! I’m not joking about this one folks! Bond is scheduled, but will Sam Mendes direct and will Daniel Craig be Bond once again? I hope so, but I also hoped that Ed Norton would be The Hulk again. We’ll see. But, for now, it looks like Bond is back.

If Craig doesn't return, who do you think should be Agent 007?

#4-“Blu-ray release for November 9, 2010.” This week, return to your childhood with Grown Ups! Adam Sandler and the funny crew reunite in this fun comedy of reminiscing and rambunctious rough-housing. I really enjoyed this film and loved writing about it. Click here for the review if you’d like to read it. Pick up Grown Ups Tuesday!

Here’s one of several favorite clips of mine from Grown Ups! I feel like getting “Chocolate Wasted” every day!!

#5- In the “Honorable Mention” section- it’s been reported that Akira will be getting a live-action movie of its own. Rumored to star Zac Efron in the lead role of Shotaro Kanedain and Morgan Freeman as Colonel Shikishima. It’d be okay if Freeman gets casted, but if Efron is chosen…….Forget it! Efron can’t act. IMO. News is still forthcoming on this project. Keep  your eyes and ears open.

Well, Thanks for reading! Happy Watching!
